The State Museum of the History of Uzbekistan will open an exhibition by the Dutch-Moroccan artist Mohamed Benchellal, "BENCHELLAL, Monumental. Sculpting Past Tomorrow". The project is part of the public program of the CCA Tashkent Center for Contemporary Art.
The exhibition was first shown at the National Museum of Qatar in Doha. In Tashkent it is complemented by a series of new sculptures that the artist created during his residency at CCA Tashkent.
Benchellal works with monumental architecture and the geometry of modernist heritage: he turns architectural forms into silhouettes and rescales them to the human body.
The exhibition is open from September 4, with the public opening on September 5.
