Shakhrisabz, the birthplace of Amir Timur, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here stand the remains of Ak-Saray, Timur's great palace, as well as the Dorut Tilavat complex and the Kok Gumbaz Mosque. Unlike Samarkand, it has fewer tourists and more authenticity.
