In Konstantin Kamynin’s new production, the story unfolds in Spain of the 1940s–1950s, a time when the world, after the war, is trying to rebuild order, and people increasingly find themselves prisoners of another's will.

But Carmen is not made for cages.

Everyone tries to subject her to their own rules, everyone demands a choice from her. However, for Carmen freedom is worth more than love, duty and even life itself. Her final step is not a defeat, but the triumph of an unconquered spirit.

Carmen departs as a legend. And José is left to live with guilt and the memory of a woman who could not be held back, could not be changed and could not be defeated.
