Ulugbek Observatory
Historical Site · Samarkand

The 15th-century observatory of the great mathematician and astronomer Mirzo Ulugbek. The remains of a giant sextant with a radius of 40 metres survive in the ground. The museum holds Ulugbek's catalogue, which precisely measured 1,018 stars. This is the place where a scholar measured the heavens 200 years before Galileo — a rare monument where science and history meet.
