Ark Fortress
Fortress · Bukhara

Bukhara's 1,500-year-old fortress and the seat of the emirate stands on an artificial mound, its walls stretching more than 750 metres. Inside are a palace, a mosque, a mint and museums. Much of it was destroyed during the Red Army assault of 1920, but the throne courtyard and the main section have been restored. From the top of the walls you can see the whole old city, including Poi Kalon and the surrounding domes. The Ark is the heart of the Historic Centre of Bukhara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
