Samanid Mausoleum
Mausoleum · Bukhara

Built in the 9th–10th centuries for the Samanid dynasty, this is one of the oldest surviving Muslim mausoleums in Central Asia. Its walls are made of fired brick laid in 648 different patterns, and because of the way they change with the sunlight it is called “the building that breathes”. Small in size (10 × 10 metres) but of world importance architecturally, it stands inside Samanids Park; a visit at dawn or in the evening is recommended.
