Abdulaziz Khan Madrasah
Madrasah · Bukhara

Built in 1652, this is the most lavish madrasah in Bukhara in its wealth of ornament and colour; its portal even features images of an elephant and legendary birds. It stands opposite the Ulugbek Madrasah, and the pair are described as a dialogue between “past and future”: the plain Ulugbek and the opulent Abdulaziz Khan. Inside are gold-embroidery and needlework shops.
